A man from Parker County, Texas, alleged of shooting his wife to death in August this year got arrested in Mexico. He was taken into custody in Mexico on firearm charges.
Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the man is 73-year-old Clayton Strong. Texan authorities are now working with Mexican authorities to have Strong extradited to the state.
Mexican Authorities Contact Texan Authorities
After Mexican authorities captured Strong on charges of unlawful possession of weapons at Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico, they identified him and saw an outstanding warrant for him. They then called Parker County Sheriff’s Office to let them know they have Strong. It is unclear when Strong will be transported back to Parker County.
Clayton Strong Has Been On The Run
Since his wife’s shooting at her home, Strong has been on the run. Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that his wife was 72-year-old Shirley Weatherley-Barrington. Weatherley-Barrington was found dead and wrapped in plastic in the front yard of her home located in the 6000 block of Midway Road in Springtown. Family members said they did not hear from Weatherley-Barrington for several days before the killing.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office said that Weatherley-Barrington’s death was a homicide by a gunshot wound to the chest after they performed an autopsy on her. An investigation began, and investigators found the suspect disposing of a weapon in a department-store parking lot on the same day the crime was discovered. The motive in the killing remains unclear but authorities said they have been called to the home on domestic-related calls in the past.
A judge then issued a murder warrant for Strong’s arrest.
Strong’s Former Wife Died Under Suspicious Circumstances
Before marrying Weatherley-Barrington, Strong was married to one Betty Strong. Betty reportedly died under suspicious circumstances in 2016, and Strong was quick to have her body cremated. Betty’s family and friends have since been campaigning for an investigation into her death. They believe Strong targeted Betty in a financial fraud romance scheme and used abuse and isolation to control her before she died. Strong married Weatherley-Barrington only three months after Betty’s death.
Authorities initially ruled Betty’s death to be caused by natural causes after Strong claimed she had been sick with Parkinson’s for years. Strong also told the coroner his wife had no other family aside from him. Later, however, an Idaho official changed the ruling on her cause of death to “could not be determined.” Betty was likewise found dead wrapped in plastic.
