On Monday night’s episode of ‘The ReidOut,’ Joy Reid attacked Florida Governor and potential 2024 presidential candidate Ron DeSantis, accusing the polarizing politician of becoming a more authoritarian version of Trump.
The MSNBC host claimed that she has been interpreting trends over the past few years, from Charlottesville in 2017 to Scott Adams’ ongoing cancellation of ‘Dilbert,’ as violent, racist rhetoric and organized white supremacy have increased. Due to backlash from a racist rant, he put on YouTube, Adams’ long-running ‘Dilbert’ comic strip series has been removed from hundreds of prominent periodicals, including the L.A. Times.
Reid stressed that a story about a cartoonist being the voice of the Great White Male Freakout doesn’t end at ‘Dilbert’ or even at Elon Musk, noting that influential men all the way up to troubled Twitter CEO Elon Musk have stated their support for Adams. With the possibility of white grievance politics becoming US government policy, it ends, or rather, it begins.
Reid’s frightful claims come as the governor of Florida keeps passing laws that limit how slavery and American history are taught in classrooms, whether or not Floridians are allowed to ‘Say, Gay,’ what women and trans people are allowed to do with their bodies and more.
Regarding the book itself, Reid highlighted the Jennifer Szalai book review that appeared in the New York Times on Monday, claiming that it scorched, The Courage to Be Free and that it pull-quoted a sentence about the dull coldness inside of DeSantis.
Reid paraphrased the Times review and linked it back to Adams before introducing her two special guests to the panel to discuss DeSantis’ most recent book, saying that “the world DeSantis is building down in Florida is one that uses the power of government to make the ‘Dilbert’ guys of the world feel comfortable to feel good about themselves. Center.”

Poll: Black Voters Don’t Want Ron DeSantis as President
According to a new poll, the majority of Black voters disagree with Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis’ recent efforts to reshape the state ahead of an anticipated presidential bid by blocking the teaching of a high school course on Black history. Also, the poll revealed that President Joe Biden continues to have high support among Black voters.
The most recent BlackTrack survey from HIT Strategies comes as DeSantis has emerged as the front-runner against former President Donald Trump in the fight for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, a contest with significant ramifications for the GOP as a whole.
Up to 65% of Black voters stated they disagreed with DeSantis’ decision to restrict the availability of Advanced Placement African American studies. Just 14% of respondents indicated they agreed with the choice, while more than half (51%) said they “seriously disagree” with it.
Moreover, Black voters complained that too little African history is taught in K–12 public schools, with 70% of Black voters agreeing. DeSantis has consistently opposed diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives at Florida’s public schools and universities.
