A deputy from the Harris County Sheriff’s office reportedly shot a domestic assault victim while responding to a report regarding a family violence incident in an apartment complex in the 900 block of Cypress Station Drive early Saturday.
HCSO deputies were dispatched to the scene at around 3:30 a.m. after the assault victim texted a friend and the 911 text service, Click 2 Houston reported.
According to Chief Deputy Edison Toquica, the domestic assault suspect refused to cooperate and surrender when the deputies arrived. Instead, he went into the kitchen, grabbed some knives from the drawer, and repeatedly lunged at the deputies. The suspect allegedly refused to go to jail and with the tasers being ineffective, the man lunged at one deputy, prompting the officer to shoot.
The suspect also managed to hit a female deputy in the head during the altercation, effectively knocking her on the ground.
According to the reports, the man was later transported to a hospital with the help of some paramedics. He underwent surgery and is now in a stable condition, Toquica said.
Meanwhile, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said that the man will be facing charges for Aggravated Assault of a Family Member and Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant. They also reported that the suspect was only out on bond for an earlier unrelated felony assault of a family member and was also previously convicted for assaulting the same female family member previously.
Regarding the officer-involved shooting, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office are still conducting further investigations regarding the incident.
The HCSO Texas also posted about the incident on Twitter, detailing what happened at the apartment complex that led to the shooting incident.
