According to Fox News, the state of Texas has begun transporting migrants to sanctuary cities. The first aircraft arrived in Chicago on Tuesday night, signaling a change in Gov. Greg Abbott’s prior tactic of busing migrants to lessen the burden on the border state.
As reported by Fox, the first flight carried 120 migrants when it departed El Paso on Tuesday afternoon and landed at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport later that day. Abbott’s office sources informed Fox that all migrants signed releases voluntarily, just like they do when they are bussed. The buses heading to the sanctuary city were interfering with Chicago’s operations, which prompted the decision in part. Lawsuits have been filed by the city against the migrant-carrying businesses.

Abbott’s action is a continuation of his policy that he started busing migrants to Washington, D.C., in April 2022, and then extended to other cities that have “sanctuary” laws, which prohibit or restrict cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
This week, Abbott’s administration said that the state has transported over 82,900 migrants by bus to places like New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Denver, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. The mayors of New York and Chicago in particular chastised Abbott for the buses, accusing him of pulling off an “illegal” political stunt. Abbott was accused by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson this week of inciting unrest around the nation.
