A recent study demonstrated that Sin City, Nevada’s Las Vegas, is not the only city in the United States that has a problem with vice. In point of fact, there is a city in Texas that is not too far behind Sin City.
In 2022, WalletHub found that the infamous city in Nevada takes top place, followed by St. Louis, Missouri, as some of the most misbehaved places in the United States.
Houston, Texas Is One Of The Most Sinful Places In The US
These rankings were based on many criteria that were inspired by the seven deadly sins. According to Narcity, Houston, Texas, came in at number four on the list and earned a high score in both the category of lust and jealousy.
Many researchers looked at the prevalence of negative traits in each of the 182 largest US cities, including jealousy, greed, lust, and laziness.
Another factor in which Houston ranked highly was the rate of jealousy. The figure was determined by adding the rates of theft and fraud committed per 1000 people living in the area. It also confirmed what many already knew, that Houston is indeed plagued by an abnormally high rate of car theft.
The catalytic converter, a metal component used to purify an automobile’s exhaust gases, has long been a target for thieves. The report also revealed that this year, it was even disclosed that the frequency of certain car-part thefts had skyrocketed by a staggering 5,300% since 2019.
High Crime Rate In Houston
Houston is well known as one of the most dangerous places in all of Texas. Unfortunately, the city’s crime and dysfunction are not improving quickly. Houston, like most American cities in 2020, had an uptick in violent crime. Even though it improved greatly the next year, by Texas standards it was still a long way behind.
As mentioned by World Atlas, its high crime rate, like that of other major cities, is the result of a number of reasons, the most obvious of which is the city’s widespread poverty. The poverty rate is 20%, and the average household income is barely $53,600.
There are many prosperous areas in Houston, but there are also plenty of impoverished ones that lack the resources, social support, and family stability to thrive.
