What did Ted Cruz state?
On Saturday, US Senator Ted Cruz assured his third run for the Senator elections in 2024. However, he did not completely rule out the possibility of seeking the presidency.
After speaking to the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership meeting in Las Vegas, Ted Cruz told reporters, “I’m campaigning for reelection in the Senate and I’m focused on the battles in the United States Senate.” According to a video of his conversation with reporters that Fox News aired online, he stated that he was also focused on the Senate race in Georgia on December 6.
What is the reason for Ted Cruz’s decision to re-run?
The Texas Republican, Ted Cruz restated his unhappiness over his party’s failure to seize control of the Senate in this month’s midterm elections, which he attributed on a lack of zeal on the part of party members.
Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, was one of 10 Republican senators who voted against being reelected as the minority leader on Wednesday. Cruz was one of them. By a vote of 37-10, McConnell handily defeated Sen. Rick Scott of Florida in his attempt to unseat him.
Cruz said on Saturday that he had proposed putting off the leadership vote until after the Georgia runoff. Sen. Raphael Warnock is being challenged by retired football player Herschel Walker, who is supported by former president Donald Trump. Despite the fact that the Democrats have already secured 50 seats in the upcoming Senate, giving them control of the chamber thanks to Vice President Kamala Harris’ tie-breaking vote, both parties are heavily funding the contest.
Ted Cruz told the Republican Jewish Coalition, “We need a meaningful debate about how we’re going to lead during the next two years in the minority in the U.S. Senate. And I asked Mitch McConnell and our leadership a very straightforward question: “Is there anything on which we are willing to fight?” I added, “Listen, I’ve been all over the country,” as I stood in front of the conference. I’ll tell you this: People are discouraged and disheartened because they claim that Senate Republicans aren’t combative. And there’s a reason why: Republicans in the Senate don’t engage in combat.

The amount is based on a Treasury Department estimate from May 2021 of the total number of employees the I.R.S. plans to hire over the following ten years. The majority will replace retiring personnel and prioritise tasks like customer service and technology rather than analysing tax returns.
Cruz replied that “there’ll be plenty of time to explore the 2024 presidential” when asked if he should no longer be viewed as a viable candidate.
