What is the present for Ron DeSantis?
Ron DeSantis may be able to continue serving as governor if he decides to run for president thinks the new Republican supermajority in the Florida Legislature. According to Florida law, candidates for public office must resign their current post first. The timing of that resignation, however, is unclear when it comes to the presidency.
What does the House Speaker, Paul Renner say about Ron DeSantis’ resign-to-change thoughts?
When questioned by reporters on Tuesday, new House Speaker Paul Renner states that Florida’s “resign-to-run” rule should be changed to allow officials to maintain their existing positions while running for federal office. If Ron DeSantis runs for president and loses, it would be a gift for him since he is thought to be a front-runner for the Republican presidential candidacy in 2024.
The House, according to Renner, would examine election law generally. But he was very clear about his opinion on resign-to-run.
“You’ll discover that I constantly strive to be morally upright and reliable,” Renner stated. You don’t have to look very far on a two-second Google search to find that we’ve been wholly inconsistent in this area throughout history. You would be correct if you assumed that was based on anything in your scenario, and I’ll be up forward and honest about that.
Following the House’s official election of Renner as Speaker at Tuesday’s Organization Session, Renner expressed his views. Renner’s viewpoint was echoed by Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, who was also appointed to her new role in a separate ceremony.
Passidomo joked, “If Speaker Renner thinks it’s a good idea, I believe it’s a good idea.”

“When you stop to think about it, I believe he should run for president if he is a Florida native and a Florida governor. I genuinely do.
When former governor Charlie Crist was considering running for president in 2008 alongside Arizona U.S. Republican Sen. John McCain, lawmakers relaxed Florida’s resign-to-run rule. After Rick Scott became governor in 2010, the Legislature reversed it.
Ron DeSantis’ successor in the event of his resignation would be Lt. Governor Jeanette Nuez.
DeSantis has denied having any plans to run for president, but there is considerable suspicion that he may use his national notoriety to take on former president Donald Trump in the race for the nomination. Since many conservative leaders blamed Trump for the GOP’s disappointing Midterm result, calls for him to run have risen.
Ron DeSantis is gaining ground in nationwide polling for a potential Primary contest against another candidate. Days after the election, in a widely read comment, Trump vilified DeSantis as a “average Republican Governor.”
