Animal Services has taken custody of over 100 dogs from a Mesquite home after receiving reports of a large number of canines in the area on Thursday, authorities said.
At least 111 different varieties of small-breed dogs were rescued from the private home in the Mesquite area, Dallas News reported. The property owner surrendered the dogs, which were then distributed to about a dozen of shelters and animal rescue centers in the North Texas area on Friday.
Dogs Up For Adoption
According to Maria Martinez, director of the city’s Neighborhood Services division, the city allows a maximum of three dogs per home, so it was inevitable for Mesquite’s Animal Services division to retrieve the dogs.
She said that they “were made aware of the situation in which a residence may have had a large number of dogs.”
Our Animal Services Officers responded and found 111 small breed dogs. The property owner surrendered the animals to the City, and we transported them to our shelter for impoundment and intake vaccines,” Martinez stated. Upon retrieval, the dogs were turned over to the shelters and animal rescue centers for immediate care.
In a written statement, Martinez said that the dogs will be able to start anew after the successful rescue brought them to the shelters for adoption. “We worked with our rescue partners, and by the end of the day, all the dogs left the shelter to begin their new journey.”
She also called it a “successful rescue event” as she expressed her gratitude to the city staff who helped the Animal Rescue Services in the operation. “This was a successful rescue event, and we could not have done it without our hard-working city staff who acted quickly and with compassion, and our animal rescue partners.”

The city officials also said that the dogs are available for adoption and that the information on the temporary shelters and animal rescue centers were available on the official website of the city of Mesquite if anyone finds it interesting.
