A man in Texas was recently arrested after purportedly murdering a woman and shooting her husband as the couple voted for President Joe Biden and allegedly mocked former President Donald Trump.
Joseph Angel Alvarez, 38, is accused of murder and aggravated assault after she attacked and killed Georgette G. Kaufman, 50, and injured her husband, Daniel L. Kaufmann, who was shot five times on the night of Nov. 14, 2020.
In a complaint found by local CBC affiliate KBDC, the couple was targeted by Alvarez after visibly showing their support to Biden by having a flag and a doll of Trump hanging in their front yard.
The El Paso Police Department said that officers responded after receiving a shooting call on the couple’s block on the night of the incident. They found the husband with gunshot wounds at a nearby residence while they searched and eventually discovered the wife’s dead body inside their home, Law & Crime reported.
According to the complaint, Georgette Kauffman’s body was found in their garage while the car was still running and the driver’s side door was open.
After killing the woman, Alvarez allegedly entered the couple’s backyard and tried to make his way into the main area of the Kauffman’s house by forcing his way through a locked iron door.
According to Daniel Kaufmann, roughly around the same time, he went to check the noise that was coming from the locked iron door thinking it was his wife but instead found Alvarez where he shot at him several times. Daniel was hit in the head once, once in the shoulder, and another in the wrist. Daniel told Fox affiliate that the gunman missed him twice.
After being shot, Daniel fell to the ground and crawled to his bedroom, eventually having the strength to run to his front door and going to a neighbor’s house and called 911.
The husband who survived the shooting said that he is “relieved to hear” that finally, Alvarez is charged over the attack but said that the criminal justice could never bring his wife back.
According to investigators, Alvarez was unemployed when the incident happened. He was fired from his job at General Aviation Terminal as an Airline Ground Support. Police said that the gunman was fired after stalking a female co-worker during his day off but eventually complained about the situations surrounding his termination via email.
Alvarez allegedly sent another email detailing his motive over the political shooting.
The email was sent to the U.S. Army’s 902D Military Intelligence unit and supposedly included photos of the area, including the Kaufmann resident and LGBTQ flags, based on court documents obtained by the El Paso Times.
In the email, Alvarez identified Memorial Park which is near the home as a “ritualistic satanic ground to conduct abortions by the manner of magic” and said he was “executing and exterminating the pro-choice Jewish Satan worshippers” by going after the Kaufmanns.
“The defendant’s belief was ‘to end the Satanic activity’ near the crime scene (Memorial Park) and acted out his manifesto by killing and shooting the Kaufmanns and by mentally fabricating the connection he believed the four corner houses on Raynor and Copper to have been involved in ‘satanic activity,’ because of their relative geographic location to the park,” an EPPD officer wrote in the affidavit.
Alvarez also called the couple members of the “Jewish Satanist Party” and expressed that he wanted to “stop all murder of babies.”
He is being held in the El Paso County Jail with a $2.5 million bond.
