The average recipient’s daily SNAP benefits will decrease by 40% starting on March 1. The daily benefit amount will decrease to around $6.10, impacting 41 million participants.
According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, consumers in numerous states will see a minimum $95.50 decrease in their monthly account balances. Some people are experiencing a cut of $250 or more per month, according to a cnet.com post.
According to the USDA, some states have already stopped issuing pandemic-era SNAP emergency allotments. In March, recipients in the remaining 32 states, Washington, D.C., Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands will longer have additional SNAP assistance. About 42 million SNAP recipients are affected.
The average person will receive less than $90 a month in SNAP benefits. But with high inflation, especially for food, the loss could feel even worse.
According to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, American inflation is still too high, but a soft landing is anticipated. According to Yellen, the Federal Reserve’s current attempts to reduce inflation while maintaining a robust labor market seem doable.

Putting Beneficiaries in Serious Problems
The USDA undersecretary, Stacy Dean, stated that many people benefit from SNAP payments. She claimed that managing the end of temporary benefits is challenging.
According to research by the Urban Institute, in the fourth quarter of 2021, 4.2 million people were kept out of poverty thanks to increased SNAP benefits. It favors the poverty rate, reducing adult and child poverty by 10% and 14%, respectively.

The temporary program provided Charles Jones, a 63-year-old veteran of the U.S. military, with an increased monthly SNAP payment of $281. Next week, when it expires, his payments will be reduced to $23. He claimed that this change would cause him major trouble.
