Millions of T-Mobile customers are eligible for up to $100 T-, but the time is running out. You may be eligible for part of a $350 million settlement if you are or were a T-Mobile customer. But the deadline to file your claim comes in its final week. The company agreed to the massive payout to resolve allegations regarding its negligence that led to the 2021 data breach that exposed millions of people’s personal information.

Complainants filed a lawsuit last year saying the company failed to protect its consumer’s sensitive data, instead T-Mobile suffered one of the largest and most consequential data breaches in US history, compromising the sensitive personal data of over 75 million customers.

Here’s what you need to know about the T-Mobile data breach, who qualifies, and the deadline to file for the claim.

What happened in the T-Mobile data breach case?

Last Aug. 15, 2021, T-Mobile reported that it undergoes a massive cyberattack in its system. T-Mobile has said that about 850,000 people’s names, addresses, and PINs were “compromised.” However, according to court filings, approximately 76.6 million people had their data exposed.

An individual selling the information on the dark web told they had personal information relating to more than 100 million T-Mobile users.

Who is eligible for money in the settlement?

T-Mobile’s 76 million past and present customers in the US whose information was potentially compromised in the data breach may be eligible for the money, although the final number may be even higher. When the $350 million settlement will be approved at its final hearing on Jan 20, it will be the second-largest data breach payout in US history, following Equifax’s $700 million settlement in 2019.

You can confirm whether you qualify or not by emailing the settlement administrator or calling 833-512-2314.

How much money could I get from T-Mobile?

According to the settlement website, current and former T-Mobile customers are eligible for a $25 cash payment, while California residents are entitled to $100. You can be compensated up to $25,000 but you have to spend time or money to recover from fraud or identity theft relating to the breach and must submit various documentation to support your claim.

In addition, T-Mobile is also offering two free years of McAfee’s ID Theft Protection Service to anyone who believes they may have been a victim of the hack.  The final hearing for the settlement has been scheduled for Jan. 20. Reimbursements are typically sent out within 90 days of settlements being approved, though appeals could slow down the process.
