Dehydrated Adults Age Faster, Good Hydration Means Healthy Aging

According to a National Institutes of Health study, people who drink enough water age healthily, while those who don’t are more likely to develop chronic illnesses and pass away young. Regularly consuming enough water has positive health impacts on the body.

The findings, which were released on Monday, are based on data gathered from more than 11,000 adults in the US over 25 years. The participants went to the doctor for the first time between the ages of 45 and 66, and then they went back for follow-up appointments between the ages of 70 and 90.

Proper Hydration Means Longer Life Expectancy

It was discovered that, compared to adults with blood sodium levels in the medium range, those with serum sodium levels at the higher end of a normal range were more likely to acquire chronic diseases and exhibit signs of advanced biological aging. Adults with higher levels had an increased risk of passing away earlier.

According to Natalia Dmitrieva, Ph.D., an author, researcher, and member of the NIH, the study’s findings imply that enough hydration may delay aging and lengthen a life free of disease, a source posted.

The researchers noted that the results do not establish a causal relationship. To ascertain whether optimum hydration can encourage healthy aging, prevent disease, and lengthen life, randomized, controlled experiments are required.

The Proper Hydration

Numerous health benefits can be obtained from drinking enough water daily, and doctors advise getting about 11 cups for the average woman and 16 for the average male. Additionally, not all of those glasses need to contain only pure water.

To stay hydrated, Walter Willett, professor of epidemiology and nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, encouraged everyone to avoid sugar-sweetened beverages. He claimed that energy drinks and vitamin waters are bad for your health because they typically contain a ton of sugar and aren’t worth using.

Maintaining good health is as easy as drinking plenty of water, especially as people age. Staying hydrated has many advantages, from increased cognition to lessened joint discomfort. An essential and frequently disregarded aspect of sustaining excellent health is staying hydrated.
