Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is a deflection of Star Trek: Discovery and a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, which broadcasted from 1966 to 1969. Pike, Number One, and Spock are played by Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, and Ethan Peck, respectively, recreating their roles from Discovery. These characters first appeared in the original Star Trek series, and all these artists were cast in their respective roles for Discovery’s second season in 2019. Kurtzman indicated an interest in having the actors back in their spin-off series after a strong fan response. By March 2020, construction had commenced, and it had been officially ordered in May. By December 2020, Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard composer Jeff Russo had spoken with Kurtzman about Strange New Worlds, discussing how it “should be addressed musically,” but it was unclear whether Russo would be part in the spin-score. off’s In February 2022, it was reported that Russo composed the series’ main titles music, with Nami Melumad composing the remaining of the score. Melumad, who had earlier composed music for Star Trek: Prodigy as well as an episode of Star Trek: Short Treks, had been composing her music for several months at Warner Bros. Studios in California’s Eastwood Scoring Stage when the announcement was made. For Season 1, a smaller orchestra has been used than Russo used for Discovery and Picard. The orchestra was recorded as a whole while yet adhering to COVID-19 safety guidelines. Melumad handled each episode of the series as if it were a feature film, which allowed him to create recurrent patterns and integrate references to previous Star Trek music.
Release Date
This upcoming American TV series for the streaming service Paramount+ is produced by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet. As part of Kurtzman’s extended Star Trek Universe, it will premiere on May 5, 2022. The first season of the series comprises 10 episodes.
In January 2022, a second season was confirmed, and filming began a month later.
