One of the teenagers injured in the North Texas school shooting earlier this month finally got out of the hospital. The teenager underwent several surgeries and is now recovering from them.
The teenager is 15-year-old Zacchaeus Selby, KSAT reported. He is one of the four people injured during the shooting by 18-year-old Timothy George Simpkins. Simpkins opened fire at the Timberview High School in Arlington on Oct. 6 following a fight with Selby.
Simpkins Is Out On Bond
After the shooting, police started to look for the car that Simpkins drives. The vehicle was found at an apartment complex in Grand Prairie, but Simpkins was not there. Police noted they do not know how Simpkins got a gun into the school. He later turned himself into the authorities with an attorney.
Simpkins got taken into custody without incident and was booked on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was held on a $75,000 bail. He was released the next day from the Tarrant County jail after he posted bond.
As part of being out on bond, he was placed on house arrest. He also cannot possess a gun and must stay 1,000 feet or 300 meters away from the Timberview High School.
Family Says He Was Bullied, Robbed Twice At School
The Daily Beast reported that the family of Simpkins Simpkins had been bullied and robbed twice by other students at Timberview High School. In a video posted by his cousin, apparently showed Simpkins in a fight with Selby. Police noted, however, they are not yet a hundred percent sure that Simpkins was the person being beaten in the video.
The Dallas Morning News added that the cousin told reporters Simpkins was afraid and scared. The Dallas Morning News quoted a member of the family of Simpkins, Carol Harrison Lafayette, saying, “There is no justification of anybody being hurt. We have to take a look at the fact that bullying is real. And it takes us all. And I do apologize. We ask as a family for the forgiveness of any type of hurt.”
The school district officials are now investigating the incident. Defense attorneys Marquetta Clayton and Lesa Pamplin, on the other hand, are looking into the bullying claims.
