A man allegedly shot and killed another man after an argument regarding the Alabama and Texas A&M football game over the weekend, where the former lost to the latter. According to reports, the suspect was only out on bond for a robbery case.
According to CBS 42, the suspect is 19-year-old Emanuel Tolbert III. The victim, on the other hand, is 27-year-old Kealand Amad Pickens. The incident took place in Bessemer, Alabama.
Police Respond To Call About Shooting
The Bessemer Police Department said that they responded to a call of a person who was shot at around 10:45 P.M. in the 1000 block of 6ht Avenue North. Police said that when they arrived, they saw Pickens shot several times in the torso. Tolbert was not seen in the area as he had already fled before the cops arrived.
Emergency responders tried their best to treat Pickens at the scene before being transported to the UAB hospital in Birmingham. Unfortunately, Pickens succumbed to his injuries at around 3:20 A.M. on Sunday.
CBS 42 continued to report that the suspect and the victims argued about the game, and the homeowner, Pickens, asked Tolbert to leave. When Tolbert got outside, that was when he started shooting at the victim.
Tolbert got arrested on Wednesday afternoon and now remains at the Jefferson County Jail.
The Suspect’s Pending Case
CBS 42 reported that aside from the new case that Tolbert is involved in, he is also currently facing robbery charges. The robbery charges stemmed from an incident on Nov. 5 of last year, and he and three others allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint so they could get his wallet. Tolbert was released from jail five days after as he posted a $25,000 bond.
After Tolbert’s recent arrest, prosecutors requested that Tolbert’s bond for his robbery case be revoked. For this new case, his bond was set at $150,000.
