Texas Man Uses Apple AirTag to Track Stolen Truck

The Texas man who is the truck’s owner used an Apple AirTag, a small device that can be attached to personal belongings to track their location, to find out where his stolen truck was located. He was able to trace the vehicle nearly 20 miles from where it was stolen.

According to Fox News, the incident happened on Wednesday at a shopping center on the southeast side of the city.

San Antonio Police Department said that the alleged thief was unaware that the vehicle was being tracked. However, the Texas man reportedly shot the suspect after finding him, leading to several bullet casings and two cars with their windows shot out.

Officials are now investigating the incident to determine if the Texas man will be charged in the fatal shooting. Meanwhile, police have warned people against taking matters into their own hands if their car is stolen, saying that it’s never safe to do so.

Apple Condemns Malicious Use of AirTags in Texas Shooting Incident

Apple has also released a statement regarding the incident involving the Texas man, stating that AirTags are designed to help people locate their personal belongings and not to track people or other person’s property.

The company condemns any malicious use of its products and is working with law enforcement to track down AirTags used for criminal purposes. According to Apple, undesired tracking has been a persistent social issue, and they have taken it seriously while designing the AirTag.

The Find My network, which the device uses, is built with privacy in mind and uses end-to-end encryption. Additionally, Apple has innovated with the first-ever proactive system to alert users of unwanted tracking.

While the incident involving the Texas man and the alleged thief is unfortunate, it highlights the importance of safeguarding personal belongings and using technology like AirTag to track their location. However, it also serves as a warning that people should not take the law into their own hands and should leave matters to the authorities.
