Former Vice President Mike Pence denounced Fox News personality Tucker Carlson’s downplaying of the January 6 attack on the Capitol as one of the speakers at the Gridiron Club’s black-tie dinner in Washington on Saturday. Also, he criticized Donald Trump’s actions that day in the sharpest terms he has yet to employ.
The event, usually a showcase for razor-sharp wit, became somber after the conclusion of Pence’s speech. There were over 600 journalists, government representatives, and parliamentarians present.
Though Pence did not cite Carlson’s name, he chastised his description of January 6th rioters as “sightseers.” Pence recalled his experience at the Capitol that day, as he ignored Secret Service requests to depart the building to safeguard his safety.
Pence continued by claiming that Trump’s actions endangered his family. He claimed that he was enraged by Trump’s inappropriate behavior. Trump’s careless remarks that day put everyone at the Capitol, including my family, in danger.
After his remarks, a standing ovation was given to the former vice president, who is thinking about running for president in 2024.

Pence Praises Media
Pence frequently lauded the media’s coverage on Saturday night. He claimed that because the press persisted in reporting, the American people were informed of what had occurred. He also commended them for protecting the nation’s freedom.
The former vice president also vowed to “never, ever” minimize the violence Capitol rioters inflicted upon law enforcement officials, according to the CNN report.
