A 72-year-old grandmother from North Carolina has been arrested and charged with murder after beating her 8-year-old granddaughter to death.
The tragic event occurred on Tuesday, with the victim being taken to the hospital with severe injuries and pronounced dead upon arrival. The Nash County Sheriff’s Office was able to determine that the girl lived in Nashville, North Carolina with her grandmother, who was her legal guardian, and several other siblings.
According to the authorities, the child had severe injuries throughout her entire body and head, which resulted from being beaten so severely by her grandmother. The grandmother, identified as Patricia Ann Ricks, was charged with first-degree murder and felony child abuse with serious injury and was placed in the Nash County Detention Center with no bond. Ricks made no statement and is set to appear in court on Thursday in Nash County District Court.
According to a news release, deputies and detectives went to the hospital to investigate further about the crime. The motive for the crime is still unknown and the other siblings are currently in the custody of the Nash County Social Services Department.
