Supplemental Security Income scheduled the release of payment to SSI recipients worth $914 starting February 1.
The recipients did not receive payment for the month of January due to receiving double payments in December 2022. The last payment was received by the recipients on Dec. 30 due to Jan. 1 being a holiday.
According to the Social Security Administration, eligible couples for SSI and essential persons will receive payment. Essential persons are those who live with a person receiving SSI and provide care. They will receive a second December payment on December 30. The amount of $1,371 will be given to eligible couples and $458 to essential persons.
A total of 12 SSI payments are issued to recipients every year. This is to ensure that recipients will get one payment every month. In the case of January 1 is a holiday, payments are given on the last business day of the previous month.
The Dec. 30 payment worth $914 was slightly higher than the Dec. 1 payment due to SSA’s cost-of-living adjustment. The recipients received an increase of 8.7%, making it the largest adjustment SSA has made since the 11.2% adjustment in 1981. The reason for the adjustment was based on the most recent cost-of-living.
According to the SSA’s 2023 schedule, they will issue double payments to the recipients in the months of March, June, September, and December 2023 due to the following months starting on either a weekend or a holiday.
