$1,050 Worth of California’s Final Stimulus Assistance Kick Offs This January: Get To Know The Qualification

California’s final round of stimulus payments, the Middle-Class Tax Refund, began disbursing funds to qualified state taxpayers on December 19, 2022. Citizens will still get payments in the mail until January 14. Depending on their income and file status, eligible Californians will get $200 to $1,050.

According to the State of California Franchise Tax Board posted on their website last November 22, 2022, you are eligible for the MCTR if you live in California on the date the payment is issued and you (1) submitted your 2020 tax return by October 15, 2021, or by February 15, 2022, applied for an ITIN but did not obtain one by October 15, 2021; (2) satisfy the California’s adjusted gross income thresholds, which means that your earnings for the 2020 tax year were no more than $250,000 ($500,000 for married couples filing jointly); (3) weren’t qualified to be claimed as dependents for the 2020 tax year; and lastly (4) had at least six months of your 2020 tax year resided in California.

Base on the article posted by Yahoo! Finance on January 04, 2022, all qualified Californians who electronically filed their 2020 taxes and received their refunds by direct deposit will also receive their Middle-Class Tax Refund (MTCR) via direct deposit. If not, a debit card will be mailed to them instead.

More than 30.6 million Californian taxpayers and their dependents have benefited from the MCTR as of December 31, 2022.
