U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon made the controversial decision three months ago to appoint a special master to review records, including classified government files, taken by FBI investigators from the Palm Beach home of former President Donald Trump.
Even though she expressed some skepticism in her ruling about becoming involved in the politically charged issue, she did it nonetheless.

No Authority to Do So
A federal appeals court in Atlanta handed a harsh verdict against Cannon on Thursday night, saying that she should have paid more attention to her initial legal concerns.
According to Miami Herald, Cannon’s decision to appoint a “special master” was overturned by a panel of three judges, all Republican appointees, who determined that she had no authority to do so. This effectively ended the case, as legal experts believed any appeal would be futile.
Several South Florida attorneys and outside legal experts agreed that the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals finding was hard to argue.
The report also stated that against the exercise of equitable jurisdiction, Cannon wrote on September 5 that she agreed with Justice Department lawyers that FBI officers carrying a search warrant for Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort had not shown a callous disregard for his constitutional rights.
Cannon did not follow her own analysis but instead granted Trump extraordinary protections by appointing a special master to assess the FBI’s evidence, claiming that the raid on Trump’s house was “unprecedented circumstances” since it involved a former president.
Impeachment Calls for District Judge Aileen Cannon
Following the decision of an appeals court to overrule a lower court judge’s order appointing a special master in a high-profile case involving former President Donald Trump, there has been an increase in the number of people calling for the impeachment of U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, as reported by Newsweek.
Although the judges acknowledged that the search warrant for Trump’s residence was “extraordinary,” they ruled that this did not give them permission to intervene in the ongoing investigation.
An online petition on Change.org is requesting that Cannon be removed as a judge, and other social media users have voiced their disapproval of his work.
By early Friday morning, Newsweek had counted over 1,900 signatures.
