A crime victims coordinator hired by a district attorney’s office in South Texas has just been arrested and dismissed from her role after getting caught in a scheme to use an official vehicle to smuggle illegals into the United States, authorities stated.
Texas Crime Victims Coordinator Apprehended
Bernice Garza was apprehended following a probe by the office of Starr County District Attorney Gocha Allen Ramirez, remarked Homeland Security Investigations, and the Texas Rangers reported Fox News.
Magali Rosa and Juan Antonio Charles, both 40, were also taken into custody, as said by Ramirez’s office. The gang is alleged to drive undocumented immigrants to the Houston area that used a Crime Victim’s Center car.
The two are getting charged with conspiracy and human smuggling as their crimes. While Charles has an extra weapons charge in the case.
One statement by the District Attorney’s office about the arrests; stated that no one is above the law, and the office took action to combat public corruption.
Based on its report, the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office said that a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse with the symbol of the Starr County District Attorney’s Office had been interrupted at about 12:20 p.m. on Dec. 7. There must have been five people inside, noted Yahoo News.
The report that Rosa was driving mentioned that she worked for the DA’s office, but upon confirmation of her claim by the officers. She showed that she was not telling the truth, remarked the Sheriff’s office.
A statement released by the Sheriff commented that the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office probe had shown that the official vehicle is the responsibility of the Crime Victim Coordinator. Also employed by the 229th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
The person is identified as Bernice Garza, a Texas crime victims coordinator, added to the statement. Later the termination of the official from the DA was affected, and smuggling illegals were transferred to the border patrol.
