17-year-old Suspect Stands Accused Of Beating and Trying to Fatally Stab His Mother

According to a press release from the Cocoa Police Department, on Tuesday, November 29, detectives learned that a missing teenager had fled with her 17-year-old boyfriend after allegedly attempting to kill the victim at a police station on Japonica Lane.

When police arrived at Japonica Lane’s home, the victim was found covered in blood and lying on her back at the door of the laundry room, WKMG-TV reported. Police said the victim was stabbed and beaten and taken to the hospital in critical condition. His nose is almost separated from his face.

As stated in a report obtained by WKMG, before being taken to the hospital, the victim took a breath and said, “Toby did this”, referring to his son, Tobias Brewer. Brewer’s friend and another man are said to have heard loud bangs coming from the house, and the friend said he saw Brewer standing in front of his mother holding a saucepan as she said, “Toby, stop it.”
According to WKMG, Brewer fled the scene in his mother’s car, while two friends boarded the victim’s other vehicle, a Jeep Wrangler, and followed Brewer. The friend told authorities that they saw Brewer going to his girlfriend’s house and left with her.

Teen Allegedly Stabs Mother For Being Made to Clean Own Room

According to a published post by True Crime Daily, using an urgent ping of the suspect’s cell phone, police eventually located Brewer, WKMG reported. Volusia County deputies attempted to enforce a traffic stop, but Brewer fled and ended up crashing into a wooded area. Brewer allegedly tried to run away with his girlfriend but was later discovered and arrested.

In an interview, Brewer said he was angry at his mother for “constantly bugging her” about cleaning his room. He eventually confessed to stabbing his mother several times and hitting her head with a frying pan until the handle broke, according to WKMG. After the attack, Brewer allegedly took her mother’s car keys and stole money from her wallet.

Brewer was incarcerated at the Brevard County Jail on December 15 for conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, absconding against the safety of life/property, and major auto theft, records show. He is still held with a $17,000 bond.
