What are the views of the Illinois Police regarding firearm access?
In an effort to prevent firearms from falling into the hands of those who might be mentally ill or dangerous, the Illinois State Police are adopting new protocols to access such weapons.
The State Police Agency has developed new, more stringent guidelines for determining whether a person poses a “clear and present risk” to himself or others. Following the fatal Highland Park Fourth of July parade shooting, the new regulation was implemented. It is no longer necessary to determine that a person poses an “imminent” threat.

A new model policy for securing and enforcing firearms restraining orders has also been established by the state police, enabling law enforcement and family members to secure court orders preventing an at-risk person from having access to weapons or ammunition.
