Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Says He Will Hire Border Patrol Agents Who Are Under Investigation

After photos and videos of U.S. Border Patrol agents – who are now under investigation – circulated and were seen charging at migrants while on horseback, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott defended them and said he would hire them if they fear being fired from their jobs.

“You have a job in the state of Texas,” Abbott said Sunday night. “I will hire you to help Texas secure our border,” he was cited as saying by Politico.

Last week, photos showing Border Patrol agents moving while on horseback with reigns and coming after Haitian migrants attempting to enter the U.S. in Del Rio Texas circulated. The photographer later said that some of the photos may have been misinterpreted.

Agents Under Investigation; Biden Says They Will ‘Pay’

According to the Department of Homeland Security, it would open a full investigation regarding the incident. President Joe Biden also said that that the footage shocked him.

“It’s outrageous. I promise you those people will pay,” Biden said Friday.

Abbott Blames Biden Administration Over ‘Misbehavior’

Gov. Abbott said that the Biden Administration is at fault for any misbehavior since they were not able to stop Haitian migrants from crossing from Mexico to Del Rio, Texas.

The Texas governor also said that the state was going to presume some functions of border control even if the U.S. Constitution designates the federal government to take that responsibility.

“I’m going to step up and do whatever I have to do to make sure that I protect the people of Del Rio, as well as all these other communities in the state of Texas that the Biden administration is ignoring.”
