The El Paso Police Department has released an affidavit saying that they have arrested the suspect who assaulted and murdered a prominent lawyer couple.
Joseph Angel Alvarez, 38, was arrested Wednesday in connection with Georgette Garcia-Kaufmann’s death and Daniel Kaufmann’s assault. The deceased were two lawyers working with the Texas Attorney General’s Office.
Alvarez was charged for the aggravated assault on Kaufmann and for the murder of his wife as she was returning home at around 7.35 p.m. on Nov. 14.
According to police, Alvarez was arrested by the El Paso Police Department SWAT team and detectives in his workplace following investigations using a Google geofence search warrant.
According to reports, the suspect had extreme religious and political beliefs which prompted his desire to “execute and exterminate the pro-choice Jewish Satan worshippers.”
The court documents stated that Alvarez believed that the area where the victims lived in Memorial Park, Texas, was a hub for “ritualistic satanic ground to conduct abortions by manner of magic.”
The documents also revealed that Alvarez has submitted an affidavit saying that the suspect carefully selected the house of the Kaufmann couple on Memorial Park because there was a Biden “flag and a doll of [Donald] Trump hanging.”
Following the arrest, the detectives brought Alvarez before Judge Humberto Acosta, who set a $2 million bail for the murder and another $500,000 for the aggravated assault.
Meanwhile, Daniel Kauffman reportedly expressed relief that Alvarez had been charged, though he shared that the arrest could never bring his wife back.
As of press time, Alvarez is currently jailed at the El Paso County Detention Facility, Downtown.
Police also said that they are continuing to investigate the incident. They also urged anyone with information to reach out to the police directly by calling 915-832-4400 or to reach out to Crime Stoppers of El Paso by phone at 915-566-8477 (TIPS) for anonymous tips.
