Michael Jordon Once Tipped A Waitress $5, But Wayne Gretzky Took It And Replaced It With $100!

Basketball phenomenon Michael Jordan is considered to be the greatest player during his time in the NBA. And much of his success and wins are because of his determination.

During his time in the NBA, he used to do anything and everything to win and his determination was considered to be “dangerous.” Any team that faced him was said to be “awaiting disaster” because of his attributes and talent.

Aside from basketball, Jordan was also a fan of playing golf and do some casual gambling. Stories would say that Jordan was rarely bested by anyone that was around him.

In a story told by Rich Strafella, a former VP of Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, Jordan and Wayne Gretzky, former professional ice hockey player, were gambling when a waitress brought them their drinks.

Jordan gave the waitress a $5 chip as a tip, but Gretzky stopped her, took the chip from the waiter, and replaced it with a $100 chip.

He turned to Jordan and told him that it is the right amount to tip, someone, when in Vegas.

“I remember a night when Wayne Gretzky insulted Michael Jordan at the table. It was a private salon game. Michael had ordered a drink from the cocktail waitress, and he gave her a five-dollar chip. Wayne took it off the cocktail waitress’s tray, gave it back to Michael, grabbed a hundred-dollar chip from Michael’s stack and put it on the cocktail waitress’s tray. Then he said, “That’s how we tip in Las Vegas, Michael.”

As everybody knows, Jordan wanted to win in everything. Did Jordan felt bad and insulted when Gretzky outdid him at a Las Vegas casino? We don’t know how Jordan reacted to the situation but it might have been one of the very few times that someone dared to call out Jordan in public, and won.
