Being a star need not be lavish, says “Supernatural” lead actor Jared Padalecki as he and his wife, Genevieve, recently showed off their modern farmhouse in Austin, Texas, for the readers of Architectural Digest in a web-exclusive tour. The couple bought it in 2012.
The celebrity couple met on the set of the popular TV fantasy drama and have slowly been turning their Austin house into a home for their family, which now includes three children ages 4, 7, and 9.
As the couple displayed their home, Jared shared his reason for choosing to buy a property in the state where he comes from, rather than pick on a property in Los Angeles, which hosts the Universal Studios.
According to Jared, he decided to settle in Austin because of its “slower pace,” reneging to the hype that sees many famous celebrities putting up bigger mansions.
“We didn’t want it to feel cavernous. A lot of homes in Texas focus on making it as big as possible, with two-and-a-half-story grand entrances. That’s fine if that’s your thing, but it is not our[s]. We would rather it feel like a little crab shell,” Jared told AD.
Interestingly, Jared who met Genevieve on the set of “Supernatural” where he played a lead role during his younger years in the entertainment industry, recalls the difficulties they had as they slowly turned their Austin property into the family house that it is today.
Behind the chic design of the mansion is designer Virginia Davidson who played a crucial role in transforming the home from its old “Texas Tuscan” state, taking inspiration from the natural tones of the historic German homesteads found nearby in Fredericksburg, according to the AD article.
The couple also made a special mention of Davidson who commissioned custom rugs, pillows, and runners for their home. “She just has a great way of making it feel very lived-in and comfortable,” Genevieve quipped.
