Police Seek Public Help in Finding Person In Connection With Valentine’s Day Murder At Austin Motel 6

Austin police are seeking assistance in identifying and locating someone who may information about a homicide that occurred on February 14 at a central Austin Motel 6.

According to police, officials were informed of the incident by staff at Motel 6 at 7100 North Interstate 35 around 1:42 p.m. on Feb. 14 after a man appeared to be dead in a room. Austin-Travis County EMS tried to help, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased was identified by APD as Juan G. Diaz-Pastor, 55, on March 9. Strangulation was determined to be the cause of death by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Meanwhile, authorities said a person seen leaving the hotel room on security video may know about the event. Police have described that motel guest as follows:

  • Black or Hispanic woman (possibly man dressed as a woman)
  • Estimated to be 5’7″ to 5’8″ in height
  • Average build
  • Between 20 and 30 years old
