A woman in Michigan has been charged with murder days after her 3-year-old daughter’s body – with multiple stab wounds – was discovered inside a garbage bag, according to authorities.
The woman identified as Justin Johnson, 22, was charged Monday on one count each of felony murder and first-degree child abuse in 81st District Court in Tawas City.
Johnson is set for a probable cause conference on Sept. 28 after she claimed that she is not guilty to both charges, AP reported.
The discovery of the 3-year-old’s body, who was identified as Sutton Mosser, transpired last Friday when Police were called to a residence in Iosco County in Michigan, northern Lower Peninsula. Police officers came to the scene and found a garbage bag with a human foot sticking out from it.
According to Iosco County Prosecutor James Bacarella, the girl suffered from multiple stab wounds. Alisa Johnson, the 3-year-old’s grandmother said that she believes her daughter is innocent and that she would never hurt her young child.
“Justine loved Sutton with all her heart. She’d never let anybody hurt that baby,” she told WNEM-TV.
In a probable cause affidavit, one of the suspect’s brothers discovered the bag with the child’s remains inside. According to the affidavit, the day before he asked Johnson about her child’s whereabouts, she told him to mind his business, WJRT-TV reported.
Officers found the suspect hours after they found the girl’s body. She was walking along railroad tracks and told officers that she did not want to talk about her daughter’s death, according to the affidavit.
