The 16-year-old girl whose name has been withheld by police reportedly died when the Dodge Cobalt she was in crashed into a Dodge Ram pickup at 13900 Buffalo Speedway near Darlinghurst Drive around 6:40 p.m. Friday.

According to the reports, the truck was heading northbound on Buffalo Speedway near Darlinghurst Drive, when the Dodge Cobalt attempted to cross the northbound lanes. As the car was pulling out, the truck lost control and spun out of control.

The impact of the crash sent the pickup truck over a concrete curb and into the trees in the median of the road.

The 16-year-old passenger of the Dodge Cobalt was pronounced dead at the scene, while the truck driver, an 18-year-old male, was reportedly brought to the hospital in unknown condition, ABC 13 reported.

The preliminary investigations led police to believe that speed played a factor in the two-vehicle collision as the driver of the other car did not seem to be driving under influence. However, they did not reveal any more information on the incident or the condition of the truck driver as the investigations are still going on.

Also, Houston police announced that the roadways to Buffalo Speedway were closed in both directions for several hours because of the accident while the crews worked to clean up the scene. Police are also still trying to find more information as to what caused the crash.

Houston police also posted about the advisory on Twitter to inform motorists to avoid the roadways leading to the scene of the crash.
