Sunday’s jet disaster claimed the lives of a Texas surgeon who was a member of the local school board, along with his two little children.
What Became of the Family of Dr. Heath Smith?
The Wise County Messenger was informed by the Texas Department of Safety that Dr. Heath Smith and his two children, ages six and eight, perished in a minor aircraft accident in a Parker County meadow close to the community of Poolville.
Just before 11 a.m., Smith flew a twin-engine Cessna C310 aircraft from Dimmit County that took off. Flight Aware stated it was due to land in Bridgeport at 12:20 p.m. However, the aircraft never reached its intended location.
Instead, it came to rest at around 1:15 p.m., and the local newspaper stated that all three of them were declared deceased at the site of the collision. The only people in the Cessna were the father and his kids.
Dr. Heath Smith, Who Was He?
Smith has been the vice president of the Paradise Independent School District since 2020. He works as a bariatric surgeon for Wise Health System.
To CBS News Texas, the district superintendent attested to his and his children’s deaths. “We are deeply saddened for the Smith family,” declared Paradise ISD superintendent Will Brewer. “The sorrow we feel for their passing is beyond words. It is impossible to imagine the tragedy this family has experienced.
Smith gained reelection to the school board in 2023 after being elected in November 2017 for the first time. Brewer stated, “Dr. Smith was an integral part of our school district as a parent, board member, and alumni.” He had a deep affection for Paradise ISD, and he left a lasting impression on the faculty and staff. The fatal accident’s cause is unknown. The (NTSB)National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are looking at the incident.
Tributes have been pouring in throughout the neighborhood, depicting a man devoted to his career and his family. In addition to his two little children, his loss is keenly felt throughout the community.
