Medical Abortion Pills Rulings

The U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk in Texas blocked on Friday the FDA approval of mifepristone medical abortion pills. Later on, he decided to let the federal government have seven days to seek an appeal.

In another separate ruling, District Judge Thomas O. Rice in Washington issued an initial injunction in a mifepristone medical abortion pills. The injunction means the drug can still be used while the court decides the merit of the case.

According to ABC 7, mifepristone medical abortion pills in New York remain protected as of now, but with the two rulings released, the protection is unsure.

On Monday, the Biden administration appealed the decision after slamming the ruling. The administration said that the ruling about medical abortion pills would intercept the U.S. Food and Drug Administration‘s scientific judgment. It would also harm women who consider mifepristone as a medical and practical necessity.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez declared during an interview with CNN  that the ruling is unprecedented and dramatic while New York State Attorney General Letitia James said they will continue to protect productive rights.

Gov. Hochul Secures Medical Abortion Pills in New York

Governor Kathy Hochul is the latest state leader to announce the purchase of medical abortion pills in New York. This is her response to the recent rulings that would block access to such medication.

She is the latest governor to take such action after the recent rulings were released on the medical abortion pills. Hochul said the state would purchase medical abortion pills including 150,000 doses of misoprostol pills.

She proudly announced during a Planned Parenthood conference that this purchase is the first wave with more stockpiling of medical abortion pills possible in the coming days. This is her way of ensuring that New Yorkers will still have access to medical abortion no matter what.

A growing number of states are also stockpiling doses of drugs used in medical abortion pills. They were led by Democratic governors, amid worries that a court ruling could restrict access to the most normally used medical abortion pills in the U.S.
