Rowlett Police Is Now Seeking Suspect Involved In A Dangerous Shooting

A reward was being offered for a suspect in a reported homicide in Rowlett late last month.

Virgil Allen Harris, 40, of Mesquite was named by the Rowlett Police Department as the suspect in the incident.

Harris is wanted on a charge of murder, and is also currently out on bond for a 2021 aggravated robbery case out of Dallas County.

The department issued a statement March 10, indicating that officers on Feb. 26 responded to a shooting call in the 2100 block of Lakeview Parkway (state Hwy. 66) in Rowlett.

They found that 22-year-old Rowlett resident Kerry Cottrell had been shot in the shopping center driveway.

Cottrell was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The Rowlett Police Criminal Investigations Division began their investigation and determined this was not a random act of violence but rather both parties were allegedly engaged in a narcotics transaction.

Harris was reported to be driving an Orange 2021 Dodge Charger Texas License Plate SRP 8905. Harris is also known to alias name of Derrick Deon Dozier, according to police.

Rowlett Police are actively searching for Harris.
