Brian Tatum, a 47-year-old man from Houston, Texas, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after being found guilty of two counts of murder according to a Fox News report. The incident occurred in 2020 and resulted in the deaths of two passengers in an Uber vehicle. The district attorney described Tatum as a career criminal and a habitual offender, and both the prosecution and defense attorneys agreed to the 50-year sentence.
Tatum was attempting to flee law enforcement officers after running a red light when he caused the fatal crash. Instead of stopping, he hit the gas and crashed into the Uber at an intersection, causing the deaths of two women Priscilla DeLeon 25-year-old, and her 24-year-old Cousin Diana Salazar. The driver of the Uber and Tatum were both taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The investigation revealed that Tatum was driving at speeds over 100 mph during the chase and had a 6-pack of alcoholic drinks in his vehicle. District Court Judge Nata Cornielio sentenced Tatum to 50 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for each of the two cases.
Tatum’s sentence serves as a reminder of the serious consequences that come with committing criminal acts, especially those that result in harm to others. It is also a warning to others who may consider engaging in dangerous behavior while behind the wheel of a vehicle. The families of the two young women who lost their lives in this tragedy have received a measure of justice with Tatum’s sentence, but the pain of their loss will continue to be felt.
