Several states across the United States have announced plans to send out direct payments to their residents as a way to provide relief from rising inflation. The checks, which will range in amount depending on the state, are meant to help American citizens struggling to pay the increasing costs of necessities such as food, gas, and housing.
In particular, California, Colorado, Idaho, and New Jersey are the states that are still going to distribute stimulus checks this month. They have already sent out stimulus payments to their residents last year but not all rebates are successfully disbursed. These payments are intended to provide financial assistance to those who have been affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic downturn.
In California, millions of middle-class Californians should have already received checks of up to $1,050. The state expected 95% of the payments to be released before the end of 2022. However, a few payments were set to go out this month at around Jan. 15, 2023, so some Californians may be acquiring additional cash this month.
Similarly, the state of Colorado has provided assistance of $750 for single filers and $1,500 for joint filers in 2022 stimulus payments to eligible residents. Those residents who filed their 2021 taxes on time likely received those stimulus payments already. But there are still people who filed an extension for their tax filing for six months and may not receive a stimulus check from Colorado until late January.
The state of Idaho began sending its first round of rebates last March 2022. While the state sent out its second round of stimulus payments in September 2022. The state is sending $300 for single filers and $600 for joint filers to eligible residents based on when the state’s taxation department received their 2021 tax return. The funds are still being processed throughout 2023 as residents file their income tax returns.
In New Jersey, homeowners with incomes up to $150,000 get a $1,500 rebate, while those with incomes between $150,000 and $250,000 get $1,000. Renters are also eligible for a $450 rebate if they make less than $150,000. Payments are scheduled to go out in the first few months of 2023. And homeowners and renters expect to receive them before May 2023.
