2022 Report: More Than 6,000 Children Killed or Injured By Gunfire

According to the website, in 2014, GVA first began recording data, 603 kids and 2,318 teens in the U.S. were killed or injured due to gun violence. The statistic follows a year of conspicuous shooting violence, including the May 24 shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, that killed 19 students aged 11 and under.

This year’s youngest to die in gun violence was a 5-month-old, Cecilia Thomas, who died after being shot in the head in Chicago while sitting in a car during a drive-by shooting in June. This year, 2022, a total of 43,675 individuals died from gun violence, with 19,849 deaths from murder, homicide, or accident causes, and 23,826 people were categorized as suicides.
