$234 Million Additional Food Aid Gov. Hochul Announced
December 21, All New Yorkers registered in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will get and take the maximum amount of food benefits and assistance for December, Gov. Kathy Hochul stated on Tuesday.
According to a media statement from Hochul’s office, all households and families participating in SNAP, as well as those previously receiving the maximum level of benefits and welfare, will get an additional allocation this month. This will result in about $234 million in federal subsidy for the New York State economy.
“During the pandemic and now in the face of higher grocery prices due to global inflation,” Hochul specified, “these additional benefits and assistances have continued to help struggling New Yorkers keep themselves and their families served.” New Yorker residents in need will be helped and supported by the $234 million for SNAP through the holiday season and the cold winter months, as soon as household finances are especially tight.
All households and families getting SNAP, a federally subsidized program managed by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA), will have and get the emergency assistance and support supplement.

All families as well as those already receiving the maximum benefit and assistance for their size and those that would have previously received a monthly supplement of less than $95, will get at least $95.
According to a published post by Yahoo Finance, the additional benefits and assistance should be available to SNAP households and families in all counties other than New York City by Thursday, December 22.
About 14% of the state’s population depended on SNAP assistance and benefits last year, as specified by a new report. According to the statement, around 48% of beneficiary households which include an adult over 55 or a person with a disability, and families with children made up above half of the households.
The costs, similar in the preceding months, will be sent and given straight to the beneficiaries’ current EBT accounts, which can be opened with their current EBT cards. The supplemental benefits and assistance, similar to the regular SNAP assistance, can be used to purchase food at approved retail food stores. The succeeding month will automatically carry over any vacant SNAP benefits.
