SNAP Recipients in Maryland to Take Advantage of Benefits This December

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits application process in Maryland can be started at the Department of Human Services (DHS) for those who need help affording food. Each month, benefits are sent out based on the first three letters of your last name.

How to Apply for SNAP?

Applications for SNAP can be submitted online through myDHR or at local departments of social services. If you ask for a SNAP application on a given day, the department will either deliver it to you in person or mail it to you.

According to Go Banking Rates, you have the option of doing so in person, over the phone, through the mail, or having someone else do it on your behalf.

Even if the office cannot conduct an interview with you on the same day you submit your application, they will accept your signed application form.

Because Maryland is one of the states that participate in the SNAP Restaurant Meals Program, certain recipients of SNAP can also use the Maryland Independence Card to purchase hot meals at locations that participate in the program.

Through the RMP, seniors, those living on the streets, and people with disabilities who are SNAP users are eligible to use their benefits to purchase prepared or hot food from restaurants and delis participating in the program.

Accessible to SNAP Discounts

In addition to buying food, SNAP benefits recipients are eligible for other benefits, some of which include discounts on specific goods and services. They have access to a variety of discounts, including those for Amazon Prime, museums, and farmer’s markets, among others.

As mentioned by Yahoo! Finance, the Federal Lifeline Program offers reduced- or no-cost landline and mobile phone service to people with low incomes, including SNAP recipients. As an added bonus, internet service costs could be reduced.
