After only three months of dating, Love Island’s Gemma Owen & Luca Bish have confirmed their breakup. Following speculations previously this week after they omitted to turn up to ITV’s Palooza function together, the tv show’s runners-up admitted they had decided to “go their separate ways.”
Their Break-up
She informed her followers that she would not be attending the event because of another commitment. Bish echoed Owen’s statement on the red carpet. The 19-year-old made the separation announcement on Instagram on Wednesday night. The former fishmonger and the daughter of athlete Michael Owen got together in August after beginning their relationship on Love Island. On fireworks night, Bish posted his final image of the two of them together with the comment, “undergoing another 1st with you.”
Despite not declaring their love in the villa, the couple was one of the most committed relationships in the competition, sticking together through Casa Amor & reconciling even after being paired with different participants. In a grandiose proposal in August, Bish proposed to Owen to be his lover after leaving the Majorcan estate. On the eighth season of the competition show, they lost out on the £50,000 prize after placing 2nd to Ekin-Su Culculoglu & Davide Sanclimenti.
Recently, the couple went on vacation together, and it was in Dubai when relationship fissures first appeared. At the end of August, Luca proposed to Gemma, lavishing her with £6,000 Cartier jewelry, a bouquet of red flowers, and an intimate candlelit moment that many of his admirers compared to a wedding proposal. Unlike their co-stars, Luca & Gemma waited until the end of the series to formally announce their love.
Gemma stressed to Luca the value of getting her parents’ blessing, particularly Louise, as the fishmonger would later travel with the family to Portugal. After meeting Gemma’s former footballer father, Michael Owen, Luca traveled to The Algarve intending to propose to Gemma. The couple first connected during the summer 2022 season of Love Island, fell in love, remained faithful to one another during Casa Amor, and advanced to the finale. Considering his obsessive approach to Gemma during the ITV2 series, viewers criticized Luca’s behavior and blamed him for gaslighting. He was called a “bully” as well for being cruel to the deaf co-star Tasha Ghouri, who broke down in tears after he implied that she was pretending to like her boyfriend Andrew Le Page.
The Love Island
Upon entering the ITV2 dating show, the public did not immediately match Gemma and Luca together but they soon became romantically involved and decided to continue their relationship in the 2nd recoupling. Jacques O’Neill, Gemma’s ex-boyfriend, entered the villa and started a fight with the two, but their relationship held up, and Luca later became friends with the rugby player. Danica Taylor snatched Luca from Gemma on the second episode of the program, but the couple swiftly got back together and continued to be faithful to each other.
