In Disney Plus Hotstar’s new series Home Shanti, Manoj Pahwa and Supriya Pathak play a couple who dream of building their own home. The plot revolves around Umesh Joshi (Pahwa), a witty Hindi newspaper columnist, his stoic retired government school vice-principal wife Sarla Joshi (Pathak), and their two children. It follows the journey of a middle-class Dehradun family, telling a moving story that is universal yet personal to everyone who strive to create their own houses.
Pahwa said the well-written script for Home Shanti was a breath of fresh air in the middle of the crime, underworld, and mafia themes that have dominated OTT platforms.
He claimed he was blown away by the script when he received it and read it. The current web series landscape is dominated by crime, the underworld, and the mafia, all of which employ foul language. He was relieved after reading the script for Home Shanti. This was a family-friendly and homey online series that could be enjoyed by the whole family. It was a well-written movie with a touch of humor and emotions centered on a middle-class family’s goals. It hit a chord with him right away, making him feel like he could be a part of something that was already being pursued by a great number of people.
Home Shanti is a “slice of life” series, according to Supriya Pathak. “When I heard the script, I thought it’s an interesting slice of life kind of show and I felt that I could do justice to the character,” she said.
The series will premiere on Disney Plus Hotstar on May 6 and is written by Akshay Asthana, Aakanksha Dua, Nidhi Bisht, Mayank Pandey, Nikhil Sachan, and Saurabh Khanna.I
