The Kapoor father along with son are making a comeback on Netflix. Netflix released a series of first looks for Thar, a new vengeance thriller starring Anil Kapoor and Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor, as well as Fatima Sana Shaikh (Dangal) and Satish Kaushik (Deewana Mastana). Thar is a film set in the 1980s about Siddharth (Harsh Varrdhan), who travels to Pushkar, Rajasthan, for a job and “embarks on a journey to avenge his past.” Is he going to succeed, or does Pushkar have something better for him?
Thar is said to be inspired by noir and Western films, according to Netflix. Thar is written and directed by Raj Singh Chaudhary (Shaadisthan), and it will be released on Netflix in summer 2022.
Following Vikramaditya Motwane’s 2020 meta black comedy thriller AK vs AK, in which Harsh Varrdhan had a brief cameo, the 65-year-old Bollywood veteran will act opposite his son on Netflix for the second time. Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota director Vasan Bala’s short “Spotlight” in Netflix’s Satyajit Ray-inspired anthology miniseries Ray, which premiered in June last year, featured Harsh Varrdhan in a considerably bigger part.
Shaadisthan, a Disney+ Hotstar original, was co-written and directed by Chaudhary. He is collaborating on Thar alongside cinematographer Shreya Dev Dube and composer Ajay Jayanthi.
Thar : Production
Anil Kapoor Film Company’s Thar is a production (AKFC). Netflix and AKFC previously collaborated on Selection Day, a short-lived but critically panned cricket drama series that was one of Netflix’s first Indian originals.
In a written statement, Anil Kapoor stated: “I am extremely proud of what we have achieved with Thar and am super excited about the film for several reasons.”
“The genre itself — a noir thriller set in Rajasthan that pays tribute to the genre of the classic Western is a first for Indian cinema and audiences.”
Pratiksha Rao, Netflix India’s director of films and licensing, added: They, like their users, are great film lovers at Netflix. Without taking innovative risks with enthusiastic filmmakers, bringing them the most engaging and unique films is impossible, and Thar is an example of such storytelling. Raj’s impassioned vision for the unique story drew them in, and they were eager to work with AKFC.
