The Coast Guard discovered a dead dog and an “unresponsive person,” who turned out to be Charlie, next to the boat. The Coast Guard intended to carry out its rescue operations even if the person aboard the ship with Charlie was still missing.

The location of Charlie’s boat was discovered near Oregon Inlet, a region of water recognized as one of the choppier and most random rivers on the East Coast.

Tributes to Charlie from his acquaintances in the Outer Banks community flooded in after word of his passing. Although he was most known for his role in Wicked Tuna, he was also much-liked in his hometown.

When Griff was on Wicked Tuna Outer Banks, we had him on the show a few times, local radio presenter Jody O’Donnell posted on Facebook.

Most of my knowledge of him came from Captain Marty Brill, his longtime fishing companion and buddy. During this challenging moment, I’m thinking about Marty and all of Griff’s family and friends,” they said. Even though the specifics of Charlie’s boat accident may never be known, we do know that it was a tragic event that many people will remember for a very long time.
