Renowned former South African soccer player and pundit Siphiwe Mkhonza passed away at 44. Mkhonza, a name linked to the heyday of South African football, passed away on a sad Tuesday. The beloved former Kaizer Chiefs great could not avoid his fate after being hospitalized for an unidentified ailment from which he was initially released, leaving a vacuum in the hearts of many.

Siphiwe Mkhonza Biography:
Siphiwe Ignatius Mkhonza was born in Springs, Gauteng, on January 2, 1979. He was initially from the dusty lands of Kwa-Thema. Siphiwe, the renowned figure in women’s soccer, was born into a family of distinction. His father was Joseph Mkhonza.
Thulisa Primary School and Kenneth Masekela Secondary School created the groundwork for his academic and athletic careers, putting him on the route to play for some of the most prominent South African teams.
Mkhonza’s career started with Bloemfontein Celtic, where he captained the team and helped them win their most significant home game of the 1999–2000 campaign, 6-0 over Mother City FC.
When he assumed the skipper position at Ria Stars and then Lamontville Golden Arrows, his leadership abilities were evident as the club improved from a dismal 13th to an admirable 5th in the league standings.
But it was during his time with the Kaizer Chiefs that he made his mark in the history of South African football. In the 2004–05 season, Mkhonza earned his first league title and a call-up to the South Africa national soccer team. His time spent with AmaZulu and Maritzburg United he strengthened his standing as an outstanding player and a leader of the highest caliber.
