Morrow began his broadcasting journey in Kempsey back in 1971, where he started as a general announcer at 2 km (which is now 2MC). Later on, he became the sports broadcaster for the New South Wales Mid North Coast. He used to announce local horse races and rugby league matches. In the mid-1970s, he also worked as an accountant in Bathurst while doing some occasional sports broadcasting with 2BS.

David Morrow joined the ABC in 1980. He started by announcing Friday harness racing at Harold Park and helping out with rugby league commentary. He stopped calling harness racing in 1987.

By 1985, David Morrow became the top rugby league radio commentator for the ABC. He called Saturday rugby league matches on ABC television until they stopped airing them in 1996. For fourteen years, he and Warren Ryan commented on NRL matches on the radio until they both left in 2014.

David Morrow’s broadcasting career took him to many major sporting events. He covered his first Olympic Games in 1984 and his first Commonwealth Games in 1986. In total, he reported on eight Olympic Games and six Commonwealth Games. In 1990, he took over as the ABC’s Sydney race caller from Geoff Mahoney. Besides rugby league and harness racing, Morrow also commented on cricket, rugby union, soccer, and athletics.
