A man is anticipated to face charges in connection with the disappearance and death of 11-year-old Audrii Cunningham, and he is no new to law enforcement.

Polk County District Attorney Shelly Sitton announced that Don Steven McDougal, 42, of Livingston, will face capital murder charges. During a news conference on Tuesday, Sitton stated that her agency was compiling the warrant papers to charge him. He was being imprisoned in jail for an unconnected charge.

Audrii Cunningham Missing Case:

Audrii was last seen on Thursday, around 6:45 a.m. Investigators discovered she had never boarded the school bus that morning and had not attended school for the entire day. She was reported missing because she did not get off the school bus that afternoon. Authorities said McDougal was acquaintances with the family and had previously driven Audrii to the bus stop and school. An Amber Alert was issued. Initially, search efforts were concentrated in the south of Lake Livingston. Over the weekend, Texas EquuSearch was observed searching for her near I-69 and the Trinity River. Recently, detectives have focused their search on the region surrounding the Trinity River Bridge. Ultimately, that is where her body was discovered.

Don Steven McDougal Criminal Record:

According to Lt. Craig Cummings of the Texas Department of Public Safety, McDougal was friends with the family and resided in a tent behind the house where Audrii lived with other of her family members. Records reveal he has a significant criminal history dating back to 2001 when he was charged with marijuana possession in Liberty County. The following year, he was accused of violence against a public servant. In 2003, he was charged with possessing a hazardous substance in Liberty County. In 2005, he was detained in Baytown to avoid arrest and imprisonment. In 2006, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office charged him with possession of a drug and theft.
