Although the incident is still being investigated, Statesboro police are not disclosing any information on the facts of the deadly shooting that occurred at Park Place Apartments on Friday night. However, the victim’s family claimed that his uncle was an innocent bystander.

Statesboro Shooting:

Lester Parrish, 17, of University Pointe Apartments on Harvey Drive, is accused of shooting and killing Eric Alexander Reese, 46, a resident of Park Place Apartments. According to the police, the shooting happened on Friday night around 8:30 p.m.

According to authorities, Parrish was charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possessing a handgun while committing a felony after being taken into custody early on Saturday morning at the Avenue at Southern on Georgia Avenue. While awaiting more court proceedings, he is being detained without bond at the Bulloch County Jail.

Regarding the incident, six other people were detained in addition to Parrish. Three are minors, all sixteen years old. The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office reports state that additional arrests included Qu’Shaun Xavier Donta Williams, 17, of Cypress Lake Mobile Home Park, who was charged with obstruction, loitering/prowling, possession of a drug-related object, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; Michael Crayshawn London, 17, of Packinghouse Road, who was charged with obstruction and loitering/prowling; and Malcolm Jamal Johnson, 17, of Packinghouse Road, who was also charged with these offenses.

Ongoing Investigation:

Although the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Southern University Police Department, and Georgia State Patrol helped with the first response to the incident, Statesboro police are in charge of the investigation.

Before 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Statesboro police officers responded to Park Place on Lanier Drive to look into a firearms-related disturbance. Reese was discovered deceased on the spot. According to Jake Futch, the coroner for Bulloch County, he was summoned to East Georgia Regional Medical Center on Friday night about a male who had died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Courtney Reese described his uncle to the Statesboro Herald on Monday as a “hard-working family man” who worked as a brick mason and had four kids. Eric Reese was caught in the crossfire and wasn’t a part of the alleged brawl involving other “high school students,” according to Courtney Reese.

“He was very kind and got along with everybody,” stated the man. “He was the family’s shining point. He was going to tie the knot.”

Following the gunshot on Friday night, according to the police, several persons crossed Veterans Memorial Parkway and entered a neighboring field, where several suspects were taken into custody.

According to Courtney Reese, he couldn’t figure out why his uncle was slain. Regarding the incident, he stated, “It’s stupid.” He declared that he prays for the families of the involved perpetrators and his uncle.
