On Thursday, various law enforcement units responded to reports of an active shooter at Halls Middle School in Knoxville, Tennessee, causing a frightening situation. The school, located at 4317 E Emory Rd, Knoxville, TN, was instantly placed under heavy lockdown as many officers rushed to investigate.
Halls Middle School Shooting Hoax Incident:
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office received calls concerning the incident at Halls Middle School between 11:31 and 11:32 a.m. on Thursday. On Thursday, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office arrested three eighth-grade pupils from Gibbs Middle School. They were accused of placing false calls regarding an active shooter at Halls Middle School. The charges against them include filing a false report, a severe offense. They also face misdemeanor charges for threatening mass destruction and abusing the E-911 communications system. The Sheriff’s Office clarified that the sole danger recorded on Thursday was an alleged active shooter.
What do the Officials Say?
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office reported no further threats to Knox County schools. However, as part of the investigation into the event at Halls Middle School, Gibbs Elementary, Gibbs Middle, and Gibbs High Schools were temporarily placed under lockdown. This was done as a precaution, not in response to a specific threat to those schools.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Halls Elementary, Middle, and Halls High Schools were all locked down during the incident. In a press conference, Jason Periard, KCS’s Chief of School Security, stated that school resource officers were already present at Halls Middle School. Within 20 minutes after receiving the threat report, around 13 officers arrived at the school. According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, all three students were arrested and are currently being held at the Juvenile Detention Facility. Sheriff Tom Spangler also recommended parents address with their children the severe ramifications of making violent threats and inform them that such actions will have repercussions.
