A male reportedly involved in an armed robbery in League City was shot by police Saturday afternoon after drawing a gun on officers when they attempted to capture him, according to authorities.

According to the League City Police Department, the individual allegedly took a silver Toyota Corolla earlier in the day during an aggravated robbery with a gun. Police searched for the individual who matched the robber’s description and the stolen automobile, which was discovered around 15 minutes after the crime had been reported.

The Toyota was discovered abandoned in the parking area of a Walmart at 1701 West FM 646 Road in League City. Officers stood by in the area, waiting for the suspect to return to the car. Around 4 p.m., he returned to the vehicle, and League City Police Department officers attempted to apprehend him. According to the announcement, the individual “produced a handgun,” and multiple officers responded by shooting rounds. Around 10 minutes after returning to his car, the man was pronounced dead.
Nobody else was injured in this unfortunate incident,” the news release said. After the shooting, the Walmart parking lot was closed to the public for five hours. According to the announcement, the officers who shot the man will be placed on paid administrative leave until the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office completes its investigation.
