Houston Father Charged with Murder

A Houston father was charged with murder after allegedly killing his 2-year-old daughter following a police chase and standoff on Monday. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Deontray Flanagan picked up his daughter from daycare before getting into an argument with the girl’s mother at a store.

Flanagan then allegedly assaulted the mother, took her phone, and fled in a car with the child.

According to Fox News, after tracking Flanagan’s movements using the GPS on his cell phone, law enforcement personnel were able to locate him near Greens Road and I-45. Flanagan refused to stop during the police chase and was allegedly physically abusing the child while driving.

The chase ended after Flanagan attempted to drive through a field and his car broke down. Negotiators were able to contact Flanagan and learned that the child was in “pretty bad shape.” SWAT members then took Flanagan into custody, and the unresponsive child was removed from the vehicle and transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Unfortunately, she did not survive and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Flanagan was arrested and charged with murder. He provided detectives with a statement before being booked into the Harris County Jail. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning for the loss of the young girl. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released any further information about the case. The tragic incident highlights the importance of domestic violence prevention and the need for support and resources for victims.
